Herbal Postpartum Sitz Bath

I am constantly amazed by the body’s ability to birth. As a chiropractor, I get to help prepare their bodies for this feat and as a doula I get to help support mamas in this beautiful accomplishment. Ladies, you are SO AMAZING! Labor is hard work that is both physically and mentally exhausting but with the most incredible reward in the end. After all of the hard work, women need the time to heal during the postpartum period. One of the best ways to do this is to take a healing comforting bath!

Herbal sitz bath blends are wonderful for healing stitches or sore bottoms postpartum.

Ingredients: Equal parts yarrow leaf & flower, comfrey leaf, calendula blossoms method:

1.Mix equal parts yarrow, comfrey leaf, lavender and calendula.

2.Brew as a strong herbal infusion (tea), steeping at least 15-20 minutes.

3.Strain and add to a shallow warm sitz bath.

Optional: Add a handful of Epsom salts and sea salt for additional healing properties.

OR use in muslin bag (like making tea in your bath=)

Combine the above ingredients, mix well and fill muslin bags. Fill tub with water as hot as possible. Drop the muslin bag into the water and allow salt to dissolve and contents to steep. Once the temperature of the water is tolerable, enjoy a relaxing healing bath.

*You can also put your sitz bath into your Peri bottle or dip maxi pads into the healing tea and freeze for extra postpartum comfort!

If you’re too busy with a newborn to make this, there are also many wonderful ladies that make Sitz Bath kits for you. We currently have kits from Heal Fast Bath available at our office.
